First photos of Cyprus' new national observatory released

The first architectural images of the new Troodos Observatory, also known as the National Star Observatory of Cyprus have been released.

This important building, which is situated in Agridia, Pitsilia, has two cutting-edge telescopes. The Planewave CDK20 on the Paramount ME II is a night stargazing telescope, and the Hydrogen-α solar telescope made by Lunt Solar Systems U.S.A. Additionally, the observatory has a sizable astromarina where those with a love for astronomy may use movable telescopes. The structure also has a 4x4 meter roll-off hydraulic roof and a 5.6-meter-wide dome that were both made in Italy.

In order to draw attention to the stars, planets, and universe, the observatory's architecture strives for perfect integration with its natural surroundings. The inside features earthy elements like granite, stone, and timber, while the outside blends seamlessly with the sky.

The initiative, which is financed by European and Cypriot public funds, intends to improve the neighbourhood. The observatory's designers wanted it to be a famous site that attracts tourists, boosts the local economy, and encourages the next generation to work in important sectors of the future.

The architects' view that public structures serve as symbols for the beliefs of their era is also reflected in the design. Their goal was to build a durable, low-maintenance building that symbolises the spirit of exploration and our civilization's spirit of understanding the cosmos and our place in it.
