The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) is speeding up its smart meter installation programme, aiming to install around 500,000 meters by 2028. After delays due to procurement problems, the EAC is now pushing forward to catch up and meet its goals. The project started with a pilot phase in January 2025, and installations have been happening in various parts of Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, and Paralimni.

In the latest phase, smart meters will be installed in places like Engomi in Nicosia, Zakaki in Limassol, areas near Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium in Larnaca, parts of Paralimni, and around Olympic Lagoon Resorts in Paphos. More areas will follow throughout April and May.

The installation is free for consumers, with costs covered by the EU and the EAC. No action is needed by residents, but there will be brief power interruptions of about 20 minutes during the meter replacements.
