The redevelopment of Heroes Square and the surrounding streets in central Limassol is expected to be completed by mid-June, slightly later than originally planned, as work continues to transform one of the city’s most historic public spaces into a more accessible and pedestrian-friendly area. The project is designed to improve movement throughout the square by creating a unified surface and removing steps, allowing easier access for residents and visitors.

Current works are focused on the area in front of the Rialto Theatre, improving the connection between the theatre entrance and the square to better support outdoor cultural events. Historic kiosks within the square, which had deteriorated over time, are also being carefully reconstructed, contributing to a slight extension of the construction timeline. Additional infrastructure works, including a rainwater retention system, are progressing in the southern section of the square to improve environmental sustainability and drainage.

The wider vision for the area includes expanded pedestrian zones, improved public spaces and enhanced links between nearby landmarks. The redesign also introduces more seating and dining areas, while creating a more welcoming environment for community events and everyday use. Once completed, the renewed square is expected to strengthen accessibility, support local businesses and further enhance the character of Limassol’s city centre.
