The Association of Cyprus Travel and Tourism Agents (ACTA) organised the Travel Expo Cyprus 2024, which opened with anticipation over the weekend of April 19-21 at the Nicosia state fairgrounds. The event, which drew 45 exhibitors, provided a promising start to the upcoming tourism season.

Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis and Greek Ambassador to Cyprus Ioannis Papameletiou opened the expo, followed by Charis Papacharalambous, President of ACTA, who warmly welcomed attendees.

Koumis noted the expo's importance not just for travellers but also for the broader tourism industry, as it provides a platform for businesses, organisations, and local governments to present what they have to offer.

Despite acknowledging concerns such as geopolitical tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean and economic uncertainty in key European countries, Koumis maintained personal confidence, aiming for performance levels comparable to the previous year's record revenues.

Papameletiou reiterated Koumis' thoughts, noting increased tourism links between Greece and Cyprus as a result of improved air connectivity and direct flights throughout the summer season.

Papacharalambous highlighted improvements to this year's expo, which aim to establish Cyprus as a premier tourism destination and regional travel hub. He voiced optimism in the industry's recovery following the pandemic, noting increased passenger traffic and tourist arrivals in the first quarter of 2024.

Noting the British market's dominance in Cyprus tourism, Papacharalambous also mentioned considerable increases in visitors from Poland, France, and Germany. He emphasised the growing interest in outbound travel, notably to Greece and other European destinations.

In conclusion, Papacharalambous reaffirmed ACTA's commitment to working with government bodies, airlines, and hospitality businesses to promote tourism in Cyprus. With positive signs and focused efforts, there is considerable expectation for a successful tourist season ahead.
