Alethriko is a village in the province of Larnaca which is located between the three big cities, Larnaca, Nicosia and Limassol. It is situated in a lush basin with Stavrovouni in the background. The Pouzis River originates from Alethriko and runs through the community. The history of Alethrikos dates back to 900 BC, based on the discoveries of the local excavations. In the area there are notable Venetian remains, which include the Fountain of the Venetians, the Stone Bridge, the Aqueduct situated underneath the old primary school, and the “Laumi”, where the Venetians had constructed a kind of dam back then.
While taking a walk through Alethriko’s streets one will come across priceless 19th-century structures including the home of the Austrian consul, Zekki Pasias’ Konaki and the historic bridge.
The old bridge of Alethriko is noteworthy and quite spectacular. It spans the Pouzis river, and is situated south of the community. Up to 1890s, the aforementioned bridge met the traffic demands of the residents in the area.
The church dedicated to Ayios Epiphanios, the village’s principal church, dates back to 1932. Other notable churches in Alethriko include the Russian church of Panagia of Semistrelia which is built on a hill and offers wonderful views of the surrounding area, but also the church of Panagia Sumela, which was built by a group of Greek Pontians living in Cyprus.
Most of Alethriko’s residents work in the city of Larnaca, which is approximately a 15-minute drive away. Currently the village has 854 residents (Zhuji World). The area offers anything someone might need from eateries to small supermarkets. At the nearby villages a bank, a large grocery store, a butchery, a greengrocery store etc. are available.
Alethriko is great to reside, as it offers the quiet and piece of the countryside but at the same time is located just a few minutes away from Larnaca. The real estate of the area is made up of houses, villas and apartment blocks.
