An important milestone in Cyprus' drive for digital transformation has been reached with the official introduction of a new mobile application called Digital Citizen. The app, which offers an innovative, simplified method of accessing important public documents, is currently available for download on Google Play and the App Store.

Appreciating the app as the start of a "new era" for public services, President Nikos Christodoulides highlighted how it makes collecting and saving official documents easier. Identity cards, driver's licenses, and MOT certificates are among the documents that users can digitally issue and store using the app, other documents are anticipated to be added in the future.

"The new era is here: easy, simple, digital", President Christodoulides stated, highlighting the convenience of having important documents readily available on mobile devices.

By doing away with the need to carry actual copies of documents, the app wants to simplify administrative processes. The president claims that this project is a component of an overall effort that will turn Cyprus into a modern, effective, and user-friendly country. "Our goal is to save time, reduce bureaucracy, and improve the quality of life for Cypriots", he stated.

The Deputy Ministry of Digital Policy explained that although digital copies of documents are acceptable in Cyprus, they are not acceptable for use abroad. People need to have a printed copy of a document before they can make a digital version of it. The ministry also urged all organizations to begin incorporating the acceptance of digital documents in their processes, with plans for this to become a mandatory requirement in the future.

To use the app, users must have an active CY Login profile, which provides secure access to government systems and services. Digital documents can be easily verified using a QR code.
