The total number of students in Cyprus has increased during the last 10 years

Health Minister Michael Damianos claims that during the last ten years, there has been a notable increase in the number of students in Cyprus. Speaking on Friday at a Frederick University graduation ceremony in Nicosia, Minister Damianos stressed the importance of this noteworthy development in education.

He focused in his speech on the significant rise in the higher education sector, which has grown to be an important component of the Cypriot economy with room to develop. He noted that the existence of several prestigious university institutions has not only benefited the economy but also assisted in reversing the brain drain, drawing in foreign capital, and increasing demand for tourism and other sectors.

He also shared that during the last 10 years, the number of university students in Cyprus has nearly doubled, and he attributed this achievement to the persistent and committed work of the government and higher education institutions. "Our higher education system is designed to ensure academic quality and excellence", he said. He indicated that both Greek and English language programs from Cypriot universities are very well-liked by students in Cyprus as well as internationally.

"Our universities are distinguished in research, employing experienced and internationally recognized academic and research staff," he stated. "Many of them achieve high rankings in global university standings. Furthermore, the active participation of our universities in mobility programs and student and faculty exchanges with countries inside and outside the EU enhances their appeal," he added. He also highlighted that Cyprus is a safe and easily accessible destination for students from third countries.

The current initiatives to establish Cyprus as a premier hub for exceptional education and research are reflected in the increase in student enrolment and the growth in the higher education industry that has followed.
