Salamiou environmental programmes inspire young explorers

More than 3,800 students have participated in environmental education programmes at the Salamiou Environmental Education Centre, learning about nature through outdoor activities, field observations and interactive experiences. The programmes aim to help children understand the importance of protecting the environment while discovering the unique natural and cultural character of the area.

Located between the Diarizos and Xeropotamos valleys, Salamiou offers a rich environment for exploring biodiversity, local plants, wildlife and ecosystems. Around 50 students and teachers visit the centre daily, with 34 programmes available for children from kindergarten to secondary school covering topics such as water, soil, energy, climate, sustainability and environmental protection.

Through activities including river exploration, birdwatching, plant and animal observation, and educational games, students learn beyond the classroom and connect with nature in a meaningful way. The programmes also introduce children to the area’s traditions, history and local community, creating a stronger link between environmental awareness and everyday life.
