Plans move forward for Paphos district stray dog shelter
Efforts are intensifying to establish a modern stray dog shelter in the Paphos district, with local authorities working towards a facility that will serve communities across the region. The project aims to provide temporary care, protection and support for stray animals while helping address a growing need for dedicated animal welfare infrastructure.
Local representatives and animal welfare organisations recently met to discuss the proposal, expressing strong support for the creation of a shelter designed to serve the entire district. Preparatory work is now under way, including research and site assessments, to identify the most suitable location for the facility.
Financial support of €250,000 has been earmarked for the project, with authorities aiming to move forward as quickly as possible. If planning progresses as expected, the new shelter could welcome its first animals in 2027, providing an important resource for both animal welfare services and local communities.
