Cape Greko is a cape but also a small peninsula in the southeast of Cyprus, in the Famagusta District, between Ayia Napa and Paralimni. The area is designated as a national forest park under the Natura 2000 program and covers 384.9 hectares. This area is thought to be one of the island’s first Neolithic towns, according to the findings of excavations conducted in 1992. Divers discovered and examined a shipwreck from the second century AD in the Mediterranean near Cape Greko in 2007. The British constructed the second lighthouse in Cyprus, which is located on the cape.
Cape Greko is an important stopover for migratory birds and is home to 71 species of fauna. The Acacia plant dominates the largest area. The plants on the beach are also distinctive since they are mostly summer-blooming species that survive there despite the soil’s salinity, lack of water and hot summer temperatures. Underwater ravines and caves can be found at Cape Greko’s sea area, which is a popular diving location. Sea caves known as "the palaces" can be found inside sea ravines that are up to 10 meters high. These caves along with the Smugglers caves are only accessible from the sea.
In the area there are nine fantastic nature trails, suitable for hiking and exploring the area. The lover’s bridge, the chapel of Agioi Anargyri, the environmental center Cape Greko, the chamber of Korakas and the peace monument are some important sights of the area which you can have a look at.
Since numerous nature trails that are sections of the European Path E4 begin or continue from Cape Greko, it is particularly beloved by cyclists and walkers. There is an easy trail of about 2 kilometers that travels by the southeast shore of the peninsula and is a part of the Aphrodite Cultural Route, as well as the more daring walk to the heart of the cape or climb to its highest points. Additionally, there is a route that has been documented that leads to the Cave of the Cyclops after passing the lovely church of Agioi Anargyri.
