One of the "Kokkinohoria" villages is Avgorou, which is located in the Famagusta District near the boarders of Famagusta and Larnaca. It is connected to the north with the old Nicosia - Famagusta road, to the west with Achna (now Dasaki Achnas), to the southwest with Ormidia, to the south with Xylofagou and to the southeast with Liopetri. With an ancient historical past, the village takes its name from the baths of Evagoras, king of the ancient city/state of Salamis, with findings dating back to the Late Bronze Age III. The village also boasts intriguing historical structures and churches, including the Holy Monastery of Ayios Kendeas and the church of Apostles Peter and Paul. There are also several old, classical buildings with distinctive architectural styles in this area.
The Ethnographic Museum, which portrays village life in the past, and the annual potato festival in July, which honors the cultivation of the community's most well-known agricultural products, are some interesting features of Avgorou. There are currently 4,177 residents in the village (World Population Review). From 1881 to the present, Avgorou’s population increased exponentially. It is important to note that in Avgorou, refugee communities were established in a number of locations to house a sizeable number of displaced individuals, mostly from the district of Famagusta.
