In the northeastern part of the village, two highlands stand out, known locally as Pano and Kato Vounos, meaning the "Up" and "Down" mountains respectively.

In antiquity, the village of Pera was known by the same name and was referred to as a suburb of the ancient city of Tamassos, due to its location "beyond" the Pediou River.
