The village of Mathiatis is situated in the Nicosia district, 22 kilometers from the city of Nicosia. This village is bordered by the settlements of Agia Varvara, Lythrodonda, Sias, Delikipou, and Analionta. Due to the two mines in the area, Mathiatis is mentioned on the earliest maps made by early travelers, demonstrating the significance it had for archaeology and history.

The first story claims that residents of the Mathiatis settlement once farmed several vines, created wine, drank, and got drunk.
