5 kilometers northwest of the city of Limassol is the municipality of Kato Polemidia which is located in the district of Limassol. The region of Kato Polemidia has reportedly been inhabited since prehistoric times, according to historical records. The Polemidia Tree, which grows and flourishes in the region, is credited with giving the municipality its name. Noteworthy is the fact that Kato Polemidia is a part of the Limassol Industrial Area.
Pano Polemidia is located 6 kilometers outside of the city, also in the Limassol district. It shares borders with Kato Polemidia to the south, west, and north, and with the municipality of Limassol to the east. The settlement is also traversed by the Garyllis River. Without making a distinction between Pano Polemidia and Kato Polemidia, the village is simply referred to as "Polemidia" in medieval texts. Pano Polemidia currently has 3,781 residents (World Population Review).
