Argaka, situated in the coastal plains of Chrysochous at the mid-eastern part of Chrysochous Bay, is a charming village of the Paphos district. With a height of approximately 90 meters above sea level, it is around 8 kilometers away from Polis Chrysochous. A number of streams can be found in the area surrounding Argaka, flowing down from the slopes towards the sea. One of the larger streams runs next to the village. The Makounta River is situated southeast of Argaka, and it is where the Argaka-Makounta dam was built. The village currently has 1,078 residents (World Population Review).
Argaka is divided into two parts, Pano Argaka (Upper) and Kato Argaka (Lower). Pano Argaka is the old settlement, while Lower Argaka is a newer, linear-type settlement that is located along the Polis-Pomos-Nicosia Road. The traditional houses in Pano Argaka are mostly made of hewed limestone or igneous pebbles. The village is relatively sparsely structured due to the stream that crosses it, the slope it is built on, and the road that connects it to the new settlement by the sea.
Nestled between the sparkling sea and a fragrant pine forest, the village of Argaka offers stunning views and natural beauty. Lower Argaka is situated by the sea, while Upper Argaka is perched on a slope, providing breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. It is no wonder that the village is covered by urban-planning zones, and the eastern part of the village has even been officially recognized as a region of excellent natural beauty.
Transportation in Argaka is convenient as the village is located next to the main Polis-Pomos-Nicosia Road, with both Upper and Lower Argaka situated alongside it. This means that getting in and out of the village by car is relatively easy. Additionally, there is a dirt road to the east of the village that connects Argaka with the neighboring forest of Paphos.
Argaka has several educational facilities to cater to the needs of its residents. The village has a regional nursery school, a primary school, the Polis Chrysochous Gymnasium, and the Polis Chrysochous Lyceum and Technical School. These educational institutions provide a wide range of academic and vocational courses, ensuring that the youth of the village have access to quality education. The availability of such facilities makes Argaka an attractive place to live for families with children who place a high value on education.
Argaka boasts a Nature Trail that showcases the community's natural beauty. The starting point of the trail is situated on the Paphos Forest borders, about 500 meters east of the village. The circular trail offers two different routes; a shorter 8-kilometer route and a longer 10-kilometer one. If visitors opt for the shorter route, they will require around two hours to complete it, while the longer route will take an extra hour.
During the walk, hikers will come across the Argaka water dam and relish the stunning view of the community, Chrysochous Bay, and the Akamas Peninsula while enjoying the unique fragrance and colors of the pine forest. It is worthwhile to take a break in the middle of the route to admire the village and the entire Chrysochous Bay from the "Moutti tou Koraka" Observation Point. Additionally, a drinking water fountain is available along the trail.
