About midway between the cities of Larnaca and Limassol, in Cyprus' Larnaca District, is the village of Tochni. Tochni is one of the oldest villages in Cyprus, with a history spanning more than ten, possibly twenty centuries, according to some religious and folklore traditions. In order to preserve the traditional Cypriot stone buildings, the settlement has been recognized as an "agrotourism" destination today. This designation encourages the restoration of the old village houses. The majority of buildings are made of nearby quarried "Tochni Stone".
The village of Tochni is documented as Togni on some maps from the Middle Ages, proving its presence of the village at least during the Latin era. Middle Ages historians attest to the communities' existence during that time. A Latin church in the village's center and a modest byzantine museum are among the interesting sights. With numerous bike centers in the village, as well as horseback riding opportunities, the picturesque terrain of the settlement and its surroundings also makes it a perfect place to explore.
