People initially referred to her as Panagia tis Napa, which was later changed to Agia Napa. On the site of the medieval monastery that was built in the fourteenth century, is the cave where the icon had been found.
The monastery at Ayia Napa is one of the village’s attractions. A famous century-old tree that is distinct to the area, stands right next to it. The World Council of Churches' conferences are currently housed in the former monastery.
