Located 5 kilometers from Germasogeia and northeast of Limassol is the village of Akrounta which belongs to the Limassol district. At 105 meters above sea level, Akrounta is situated on the edge of the valley that the Amathus River has carved out. It shares borders with Germasogeia to the south, Mathikoloni to the west, Dierona to the north, and the Foinikaria to the east. The village’s name was inspired by its location, which derives from the word Akron and denotes that it is situated close to a valley’s edge.
Right at the entrance of Akrounta, one can find a river bridge that is located at the community park. Following two streets, the village is split into two sections from that point. The architecture of the village is quite interesting with the stone-built, windowless homes in the heart of the village and with the houses that are made of brick. An old faucet can be found in the center of the village which residents used in old times to supply water to their homes. On the other hand, Akrounta has also a newer center where the architecture is entirely new with modern houses.
