New proposals target the revitalisation of central Nicosia

A new roadmap outlining proposals for the revitalisation of central Nicosia has been presented, focusing on improving public spaces, supporting residential living and enhancing the overall experience for residents, businesses and visitors.

The plan highlights the importance of coordinated urban development and proposes a practical framework to guide future projects. Key recommendations include simplifying procedures for building upgrades, encouraging property renovations, increasing residential activity in the city centre and expanding cultural and community-focused initiatives. The strategy also emphasises the need for effective project monitoring and long-term planning to ensure sustainable results.

As part of the initiative, Makarios Avenue has been identified as a pilot area for a series of targeted improvements. Planned interventions include additional shading, enhanced lighting, public space enhancements and community events designed to create a more vibrant, accessible and welcoming urban environment. The overall goal is to strengthen the attractiveness and functionality of Nicosia’s city centre while improving quality of life for those who live, work and visit the area.
